Handy, but not a primary sharpener...
These are handy, and work well for a quick touch-up, but that's it. Ideally, they work best for saving weight when packing - for example, an extended hiking/camping/hunting trip where weight and space are at a premium. They are not good at all for permanent/primary usage as a sharpening system however, as all they would do when used as a primary sharpener is wear your blade away very quickly. With extensive use, they will also cause a "serration" effect on a straight blade, as the blade steel catches and 'hops" as you drag it through the sharpener.
It isn't just this "Name Brand" alone though. There are several companies that make sharpeners like these, and they are all subject to the same problems. As I said though, as a "touch-up", or emergency sharpener, they work quite well, but they are no replacement for a proper stone...

These work well keeping a knife with a good edge sharp, However you still need to
use a stone to put and edge on a knife.

These are the best Knife sharpners money can by. It takes a little while to learn how to use them but once you do you can get any knife razor sharp.
